Still waiting for the next episodes - but the answer is I think both, He is in a coma and his mind is travelling back in time.

It sounds like he is in a coma, and is living in the past in his head.
Wait for the next series to see where the writers are taking it.
I'm as confused with this series as I am with Lost.

if u aint figured it out already hes in a coma and thinks hes gone back in time but to get out of his coma he needs to do certain things first!!!!

Its back in January next year and its going to be the last series too, not making anymore and apparently there is a big twist at the end of it, can't wait its excellent TV.

Fantastic series-felt like I was back in my teens!!!. Cant wait for the second series, just hope its on the production line. As for Sam, I think he was getting closer to death. The last programme saw him pleading not to have his life support switched off!!!
