I have worked in both QA and Development, and I much prefer development.

I have found that the salary ranges are pretty much the same (I made the same, anyway, working as a game developer for Sierra as I did working Quality Assurance at an engineering firm).

Quality Assurance generally consists of finding other people's problems, convincing them that the problems are not user error, and then handing the problem off to the developer to fix. Nobody likes to be told their code has problems, and you sometimes find that it's all about ego and nothing about Quality.

Development consists of real problem solving. Most of the time it is challenging work, where you find you're the first one to do something in a specific way. It's really the carreer path for growth of your programming skills.

Good luck, whichever you choose! However, try development first - QA people who were developers at one time often do better than people who have never written their own code.

software development is probably better pay, and would put more skills to use. I used to work for a call center and the quality assurance people didnt need a degree or anything. They were hired from already within the company. besides im sure it would be more fun doing software development.
