I
'm thinking of AC DC, Kiss , Guns n' Roses and Van Halen but are they that similar to led Zepp etc.? because I always thought of AC DC etc. as more heavy metal than hard rock and them being harder than Led Zepp. etc. can you just tell me if they are similar and if you think I will like them

and if you know any other bands like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple ie. bands that are hard rock that are good and you'd think I'd like please tell me

One band that is often compared to Led Zeppelin would be The Who. The similarities are thin, in my mind, but not nonexistant. I believe it's no accident that a lot of people who are fans of the one are also fans of the other.

All of the hair metal bands of the 80's owe a lot to Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Who (and in some people's minds, Black Sabbath), but I don't know if "similar" is the word I'd use.

I'd recommend you check out Cream, Heart, Foghat, Steppenwolf, Thin Lizzy, even Uriah Heap. Once again, "similar" is probably too strong a word, but if you like The Mighty Zep, you might like some of what they do.

You might want to look into some of the Post-Zep stuff by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page as well: Coverdale-Page, The Firm, The Honeydrippers, Page&Plant, Robert Plant.

Whitesnake has it's moments on the Deep Purple side.

Rainbow has some moments of greatness as well.

In some ways it could be said that Van Halen is the most direct descendant of Led Zeppelin. In some other ways that's a patently silly idea. I guess it depends on your point of view.

A relatively obscure guitarist that I would recommend to any Led Zep fan would be Rory Gallagher. No, he has nothing in common with them. Except that his stuff is really great.

And in other relatively obscure music: Lili Haydn and Kevin Gilbert.

Try Cream, Derek and the Domino's or even The Who but try and get live stuff sounds much better. Its nice that you are listening to good music but you cannot put Van Halen, AC/DC and Guns and Roses in the same category as Led Zeppelin different league.

If you like the bands you've mentioned, then you'l probably love early Queen albums. Queen one & two, Sheer Heart Attack for sure. Also Def Leppard's Hysteria album and Early "Ritchie Blackmore's" Rainbow. Yes the bands are different but that's whats so great, you CAN tell them apart because they're all trying to be different. In the last couple of decades they just all sound the same. That's why there just are'nt bands with that real supergroup superiority anymore.
