Get his wife to help! We've all seen the office, changing the characters isn't going to make it any more challenging.
Why does he want a Lion anyway, it would only be useful if he's trained and won't eat the sheep anyway. If he's a man on an island on his own he certainly won't want to be wasting that sheep, i think he should just take the sheep to the other island and live happily ever after

First take the sheep over. Come back, pick up the hay, take it over and bring the sheep back. Then take the lion over, leaving the sheep behind. Then go back and collect the sheep.

He can either row back and forth 3 times or he can train the Lion to not eat the sheep and the sheep to not eat the hay.

without getting eaten by the lion ... you're going to need a rope... tow the bale of hay with the lion tied on and get the sheep to row the boat... anyway it's illegal to import lions without a dispensation from the pope

He needs to go over with the sheep, go back for the lion, take the sheep back with him to get the hay... leave the sheep, go back to the lion with the hay and then go back for the sheep - et voila

What's he got a lion for anyway.......strange bloke......
It also assumes that as he starts at one bank with them all that he could stop all these things happening whilst he was there first of all. And that is actually feasible to take out one object and put in the other to come back at the same time......
