Actually, i have recently gotten an xbox 360. Sure, it was 300 dollars +a extra $100 for a game and a memory card, along with the fact that i am now in debt (i owe $50 to my mom), but it was well worth it. If you are having problems with the price point, go to a local EB Games, EBX, or GameStop, and attempt to purchase a used one. Even though it is used, these stores keep all their items in top notch condition, so i wouldn't worry about it. I would work fast though, since used Xbox 360s are a rare commodity, and will fly off the shelves fast. If you are lucky enough to find one used, you could probably buy it for $225, saving $75. Since your husband seams to be a video gamer, you could turn in old games or systems for store credit to drastically reduce the price of the xbox. As a small recommendation however, since EBX and EB Games are owned by the same company, there are a large amount of the stores, meaning Gamestop is in the minority. Due to this i will guarantee you that Gamestop will give better prices and customer service than the before mentioned stores in anything you want to do.
I hope this helped.
P.S.- as a note to the above posters, i prefer the xbox 360 over the Wii and PS3. The Wii is too experimental for my tastes, and $600 for a PS3 is a ridiculous amount to pay.
P.S.S.- The price will not go down on any of these systems. The way these companies make money off us is through peripherals and games. They actually LOSE money when we purchase a system.

Honey... i say no... its not because the XBox 360 is just better graphics... it brings nothing new into this generation of gaming... now the WII costs less and brings the whole move sensativity thing.... and its only like what... $150-$200 and the PS3 is kick behind... but you dont want that, apperantly... but i woudnt recommend the 360, get him a WII...

HECK YEAH. I genuinely have an unique XBOX and human beings are on no account on something yet Halo 2 on it, notwithstanding that is nevertheless very well worth the money. I on no account lose interest of it. i've got even performed Halo 3 on line basically a splash at a pal's domicile, and that's a great deal greater desirable. you heavily isn't dissatisfied in case you do.

I have a 360 and I think it's great - the graphics and performance are awesome. The only thing I hate is that there aren't that many games out right now, so basically I'm waiting for more interesting games to come out. But, the games that they do have out have outstanding graphics and if it's for your hubby there are many good sports games/fps games for 360.

The few hundred bucks is irrelevant compared to hundreds or thousands of hours wasted on these things.
Read books, go hiking & camping, learn another language, take night classes, volunteer at a school or hospital. Live in the real world.
