he is good at the game, and i think it would be a fun pastime for us to enjoy together. we have tried playing together several times, including for a few weeks in a club, and i have a bridge computer and books. i admit i have not really made any progress, but i tend to forget stuff i don't practise regularly. i am not sure whether 2 people playing on different levels could ever enjoy playing together (i enjoy playing with him, but he gets very frustrated with me). or whether after maybe 6 months or whatever of regular play then i would be good enough not to frustrate him?

It is possible that you could find this to be mutually fun. However, as an option to make it more fun & to be something of a surprise...if you have the desire to learn and the ambition to do so, then you might consider training intensively with study & maybe find yourself a beginner's group to play with. As you gain proficiency, then you could spring it on him over dinner some evening and really rock his world.

Instead of putting you down,he should be patient and explain the different plays and why.if he does this then he will have a good partner.(you) you can practice in yahoo games with other beginners.
