Benign dictatorships usually don't last long before the people either rise up and create a republic or the dictator seizes and ever expanding amount of power. The "corrupt" republic is a false concept since it isn't the republic itself that is corrupt but the people in power. Even in a republic run by corrupt men and women, we have the power to put good people back into power and right the ship. I will always choose the form of government that puts limits on the power of the government above any other.

The problem with dictatorships is that they rely totally on the beneolence of the current dictator. You might get one really nice one who treats his people well and makes them all prosperous. But the next one that comes along might be a 14-carat SOB who takes everything for himself and murders indiscriminately. So I'll take a democratic republic, thanks. At least, when we get a 14-carat SOB in office, we only have to keep him a few years.

Your concept of humane dictatorship is really wrong and a Republic is not corrupt. it's the people who are in the government who are corrupt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
