The slate is layed over a concrete base. Some of the stone is broken ( i will have to replace).

if loose get it up as gingerly as possible, but I'm afraid years of wear will never match the new pieces you will use! grout saw old hand saw.....

maybe buy new for a border & lay the infield @ 45 degree angle out of old stock!

get a Jack hammer a small one from any tool rental place that should the fastest way and lay out the floor where all the cuts will be as symmetrical as possible and use a good thin-set then seal with a good sealer then let that dry grout and clean it very will and then seal again good luck
