The doctor has no choice but to measure from the date of your last period. His estimate will be close and that is the estimate that he will use for your entire period.

The sonogram shows the current state of development - and that could be because your child is a bit ahead or the estimate could be off by a few days or a week.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. I would go along with what the Dr. says, knowing it is an estimate and that there is always a "more or less" that goes along with a due date. Your doctor has done this a thousand times before and you can bet that he knows what he is doing. If you do not trust him and don't want to go with what he says, then you probably should get another doctor before you get too close to the delivery.

Peace!

Well I have been through this two times and the doctor is right. The sonogram always says a week ahead because they are just going by the size of the fetus. So your doctor is right honey.

A sonogram usually relies on measurements. When you get it the next time, the due date might change depending on how big or small the baby is.

Your doc calculates it by adding 9 months and 7 days to your last menstrual period. That is usually a little more reliable but it does not mean that it will be THE day.

It is most accurate to go off your LMP, which is how your pregnancy is calculated by your doctor. All babies are different sizes and shapes, so sonograms can be off by a couple of weeks. It just gives you what the average age is of babies measuring what yours did.

the sonogram is usually right all your doctor knows is what last day of your menstrual. That is like mine the doctor hospital ex..all said that the baby is bigger than what date I gave them. So rather than giving one date to go by he tells me it can be at the end of Feb. beginning of march. Although I KNOW when my last one was because I was TTC I could have gotten preg. before that yet still had my period or what I had thought was a period because mine are irregular! BEST WISHES CONGRATS!

Your sonogram its way more accurate. Your doctor based your due date on the information you gave him or her about the last date of your menstrual. So when they measure your baby they can tell more accurately how far along you are based on how many ounces and the length of the baby.

Sonogram is more accurate always. I am suprised your doctor hasn't changed your due date. My doctor did, she always followed the ultrasound.
