I am seriously thinking about leaving the US due to the looming financial mess on the horizon. I'm a 25 year old professional, and with the baby boomers retiring soon Social Security and Medicare will become enormous burdens on the fewer workers who remain in the workforce (i.e., me) to pay taxes. The only ways to balance the budget, that I see, are through higher taxes on my wages, or a devaluation of the dollar. Either way my standard of living will take a hit. So, I'm thinking of getting out now- before the music stops and the party crashes- and establishing a new life overseas in a country with more stable prospects. Why should I stay here and work hard and pay taxes to fund other people's retirements when those programs won't be around when I need them? My generation is going to have to pay for the promises made to the baby boomer generation- pensions, etc.- but companies no longer offer pensions for us. So what about leaving the country before the train wrecks?

The things you are saying are the same things every generation has always said about the future -- there has always been some disaster looming --- war, cold war, nuclear disaster, disease, morals, crime whatever. If you want to go, then go -- but be glad you are an American and have the choice of leaving. Lots of places don't. But keep this in mind, the places you might be looking to go have taxes too, and could even be worse than here.

Think you need to do some serious research into the other countries in the world. Some of them take 50% of your pay for taxes and you get little or nothing in return. Before you knock the USA and what it faces, check out what the other countries already take.

You are absolutely right about the give me genera... uh... baby boomer generation. They seem to have no problem taxes the hell out of other people. If they would have been forced to pay the amount of taxes when they were young that we have to pay now, they would have screamed about it.

But seriously, where are you going to go? Other countries will either take more right off the top or have even worse problems with their give me genera...uh...baby boomer generation.

What, did Slick Willie bypass and stain yet another skirt? The looming catastrophe would be whilst he turns into First Husband, and his spouse/controller turns into President next November. And there ain't ingredient one we are able to do approximately it...Obama's going to be her working mate, and there is not something Rudy "Don" Guiliani or John "Di De Mao!!!" McCain can do approximately it. The Hilary Clinton administration is going to make the yankee human beings wish for the forged previous days of George W Bush...believe me. i know those issues.

Wow....I thought I was the only one who was seriously considering this!! I am in the same position as you, and agree wholly with your views about our economic future. I have small children to boot, and I worry about the society I'm raising them in. The idea is wonderful, but scary at the same time.....I guess for me it's really just a dream, and I don't see (or have) a way to make it happen. But for you - GO FOR IT!

Where are you going to go? What leads you to believe that you'll have a "better" life abroad? If you're feeling that negative about America's future prospects, then perhaps leaving is your best option.

Can I help you pack. Maybe you would like to go to France or Germany. If you think it will be bad here it will be worse wherever you go. How about taking care of yourself.
