It's not Macha's fault The A's lost.
And it isn't right that he got fired.
Ken Macha is a good baseball man, and has a lot of class.

I'm not sure why they would fire Macha. I don't think he's great or anything, but neither do I blame him for the A's failings in the playoffs. I think most of us know that the A's are run by the front office, and that the manager is really instructed as to what buttons he should be pushing. I know that Art Howe didn't have a great deal of autonomy when he ran that team, and I'm sure the same is true of Macha.
As for Pinella, that's a good move for the Cubs. They need someone to light a fire under that group, and that's something Pinella does well. Also, it will thankfully keep Pinella out of the broadcast booth, where I won't have to hear that annoying voice telling me obvious things like, "He really got ahold of that and put it in the leftfield stands. That was a good swing." Thanks for that, Lou.

I am very surprised by the firing, but not the hiring of Lou Pinella. Ken Macha in my opinion was a great manager and I really believe someone who picks him up in the market will have a steal. However, I do believe that Joe Giradi is a better manager than Pinella. He is very good with young guys like he had with the Marlins, and it showed. Pinella is in the top 5 in all-time ejections which is not a good learning point for young players. Also, one of the great pitching coaches in Leo Mazzone wants out of Baltimore, why dont the Yankees go out and get him?

The "Big Hurt" goes "O" for the ALCS and they fire the manager. Thomas choked bigger than A-Rod. Macha and Billy Bean have not seen eye to eye in the past as your might recall. Macha walked away once and then came back and took the offer on the table.
Pinella is a bad fit for the Cubs. Too high strung and too short a fuse. He will just make a bad situation worse. Cubs fans don't need a side show, they just want to win.

I know exactly why the A's fired Macha. I think hes a decent manager but they have their eyes on girardi. They know they will make the postseason next year, they need a manager to fire them up. As for pinella, he turned down the Giants, for the cubs?

Macha is a good manager, but I don't think he takes enough warranted risks. The A's used to win games by playing small ball, but since he took over, that hasn't been the case. I think Ted Washington should take over, because at least he'll have his team steal a base every now and then!

You're kidding about Macha, right? That is so totally wrong. It was his players who didn't produce, not him. He was the main reason they got there and I am a Tigers fan!
