if there is some cranking but not fast enough to stsart the car then you have not got the correct battery fitted there are differant cranking strengths on a lot of batteries.
If there is no crank at all and a clicking its the starter motor thats n.f.g. i am afraid, have you checked the relay out?
good luck.

presuming the engine doesnt even turn over ! ( this needs to be communicated first ) when trying to start listen for a distinct click , for a starter motor to work it needs to be engaged via a starter solenoid , no click no solenoid , they can some times stick and require only a tap ( say with a light hammer ) to release it or need replacing if youre unlucky , if you can identify the starter motor it self the solenoid will be a small cylinder shaped object attached to the side of it , possibly 2 inch round 3inch long , tap this , this is presuming you have power to light all dash lights ( head lights/ heater etc even ? ) as normal and its not the battery

When attempting to start vehicle with key listen for a clicking noise. If no noise present you could have a faulty ignition lock or broken wire between ignition and starter. There is a single small wire at starter motor see if there is power at it whilst key is at the start position.

Check your battery terminals are clean & tight. Did you change the battery because of the starting prob? if this is the case, and you have changed the battery and nothing changed....maybe it is your starter motor. But, clean the terminals, and put a spot of vaseline on them.....

If its petrol its almost certainly your starter motor. If it's diesel it still is most likely the starter, but if its becuase it can't compress properly that would be lights out.

usuall faul is caused by crank sensor being tired, it lives on top of the gearbox by head, held in by 2x 8 or 10mm bolts and cost about £20 from renault.
wont start off key but bump starts straight away.
