Holding us back??? Just look at the advancements our civilization has made in just the past 100 years... the past 50! People are living longer than ever, we're constantly enriching our lives and all of the negatives are sometimes constantly nitpicked as we disregard our achievements.
If there is one thing holding back progression it is religion, or more appropriately, creativity and individual thought. Religion stifles that, but is not an immediate cause, yet it has historically been a deterrent. Scientific thought and principles which challenge religion are often viewed harshly and the dark ages were a period where many were too scared to challenge the church's idealogy. The Renaissance marked a rebirth of creative thinking and the human race has not looked back. If there is one thing we can, no matter how much you may not like something, it only hurts us to stand in the way of progress.

Well lack of agreement as to what would consitute progress of the human race is kind of a blocker. Ignorance would be another big blocker. The popular notion that centralized government solutions can fix the worlds' problems is a great example of common ignorance. Even after the calamitous economic failure of the USSR - Russians still long for the "good old days".

I'm not saying this 2 upset any1, but religion I think is mankinds biggest hurdle 4 all races on this planet.
He has 2 learn his own self-importance & justify his own existence.
Either we all follow the same 1 or have none.
1 or None.
Simplistic & has no hope, I know.
But I can dream, can't I?

Lack of Will.
If people would just accept the cold hard facts of life and stop letting the flawed among us breed, we'd get much further much faster.
Also, if the flawed were humanely put down when born, it would free up many, many resources that could then be invested in making those of you who remain much more comfortable.
I say "you," because I know my own genetic history will probably throw me into the "flawed" camp.

Stupidity and ignorance. Humans really haven't been around that long, and yet we're accomplished so much. However, with the accomplishments that we've made, we've made it possible for stupid people to survive, and they're all over the place.
