The best values are found off the Strip.

For example, The Orleans, is an excellent hotel with rooms about 50% bigger than average.

It is on Tropicana, about one mile west of the Strip.

There are free shuttles every 20 minutes from the hotel to its sister hotel, Barberry Coast, on the Strip at Flamingo -- Caesars, Flamingo Hilton, Ballys, Paris and Bel'aggio are right there).

Rooms can be had from $40 to $80 per night -- depending on the demand.

You will get the lowest rates for Sunday to Thursday -- Friday and Saturday are usually more money.

Other good off-Strip hotels include Sam's Town and the brand new Sun Coast (the Sun Coast has rooms even bigger than the Orleans + each room has huge picture windows).

Have fun!

Are you planning on being there on NYE? If not, then all of the hotels along the strip are much cheaper the week before and after Xmas (up until Dec. 30th) than they are the rest of the year. Any hotel you pick on NYE will be outrageously expensive. What dates are you talking specifically and what is your definition of moderately priced? I can give you more specific answers with that info (I go to Vegas frequently)

Actually I would have to totally recommend the Flamingo. For an older hotel it was wonderful. They just did a remodel a few years back and I was super impressed. I was supposed to stay at our family's condo over super bowl last year and ended up staying there. I was very impressed.

Paris usually has some good deals. It's a nice hotel located in the middle of the strip with great restaurants and a great (but small) casino.
Have fun!

First, go to http://tripadvisor.com for reviews from other travelers.
Then, go to http://Luxe.worldventures.com They search all the other main sites like Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, hotel and airline sites and offer you the lowest price. You’ll save even more when you book it as a package like air and hotel together.

don't pick the Stratosphere. It's a bit distant from the rest of the Strip.
