The simple answer is that it's not really true.On the whole Brits do not have an anti American attitude. Most Britons were against the invasion of Iraq and did not at the time (and still don't) know why Blair was so keen to support Bush .
The idea that we are sore at America because of the war of independence 230 years ago is nonsense.
American actors are very popular here and I have never heard of Americans being attacked over here for just being American .
Generally speaking Britons like America and it's people .just because we don't always agree on American foreign policy or are keen on your president does not make us anti American

thats a easy one, perhaps if americans when overseas would just keep their big mouths shut, and hollywood has to take some blame, whenever there is a movie made about the 2nd world war its allways about the americans ,as if they were the only ones in it which of course is nonsense as they were ametures as far as thge british commonwealth soldiers were ,there are also a lot of people still alive who remember the yanks in england during the war ,loudmouthed know it all bastards and spent most of their time drinking and carousing while the british were being killed by the thousands, then coming in when the battle was won and getting all the credit, people dont forget, and "STEVEUK"a brilliant piece of truth but i think it will probably fall on the usual deaf eared americans,

The Brits don't dislike Americans. What they dislike is our foreign policies. Can't say as I blame them one bit.
It's time that we Americans take a long, hard look at our involvement in world matters. Keep our military home (but ready to fight if necessary) and take care of our own problems first.
Do you really think they hold a grudge because of the Revolutionary War? Answer this by asking a Brit what their "Thanksgiving Day" is. They will tell you "The 4th of July".
Oh yes - kudos to you, SteveUK

For the same reason there are so many anti-Americans in the U.S., and worldwide. The media, including our own, portray us as evil and contend that any good we do has an evil ulterior motive.
BTW, if the majority of Brits were anti-American, their current government would have been subjected to a vote of no confidence, and changed.

Having read the wild speculation from those Americans who have offered you answers already,it has led me to correct the misinformation contained in them;
1/ We frankly don't give a damn about the US Independence, if we'd cared at the time we'd have sent our own army to destroy your uprising, we didn't, we sent Prussian mercenaries. Anyway, our Queen can renounce the Independence that we granted at any time.
2/ Tony Blairs 'New Labour' party received less than half the votes cast, and only 29% of us bothered voting. That means he has approx. 13% support among the British electorate, 87% are against him. The trouble is that Labour were a left-wing party when he was first elected, and his modernising of the party has taken it to the right of dear old Maggie. The only other options for the British Electorate are the 'Conservatives' who are right wing, too, and the 'Liberal Democrats' who are so middle-of-the-road, they don't know which side they're on.
Democracy only works when the electorate has a genuine choice, and, just like Americans with the Extremist Right Republicans and the far right Democrats, we have no choice, so we don't vote.
3/ We are intelligent enough to learn the lessons of history, and that colonial powermongering is politically and morally wrong, that is why all former Empire countries have received full independence, and can now choose to be within the Commonwealth.
4/ The Zulus were in South Africa, the Afrikaans/Boers were Dutch colonials.
5/ We do not have the same ideals and beliefs as America, Tony Blair might do, but the average man on the street feels very different. Your country is fervently in support of Israel, due to the political sway certain Jewish businessmen hold over your politicians. Britain regards Israeli actions over the past 30 years as illegal, and has in the past, raised sanctions against Israel at the UN Security Council, where the US vetoed them.
6/ We are no where near as right wing as America, hence our National Health Service, free for all at point of delivery. Our country believes the wealthy should subsidise our Social Welfare for the sick, elderly, and children.
7/ How many bombs were exploded on mainland US soil during WW1 & WW2? How many were spilt on Europe? So you see, in Europe (which the UK is) were tired of political warmongering, because we know who bears the brunt. The poor, the working classes are the ones who die, whilst wealthy businessmen and politicians keep their families safe.
8/ We believe that in the modern age, invading a foreign country for political aims is wrong.
9/ US business and citizens were more than happy to give generously to the communist IRA to plant bombs in London, Birmingham, Warrington, Manchester, Newcastle, and, of course, Northern Ireland, killing and maiming UK residents.
10/ Where were the US troops when Argentina invaded the British Protectorate of the Falkland Islands. We weren't even allowed to refuel our planes over US airspace!
11/ More British troops were killed by US 'friendly fire' during the Kuwaiti War than by Iraqis.
12/ You sell nuclear technologies and Anthrax to countries like India, Israel & Saddam Hussein. We do not approve of WMD.
13/ We do not hold individual Americans to blame for this, just Americanism. Perhaps your children should learn History, instead of the Pledge of Allegiance. Americans are more brainwashed by their schools, Government and Media than any other country, it makes Maos China and Stalins Russia look like amateurs.
Anyone who doubts this should just look at the way Americans became so ardently anti-French just before the Iraqi invasion, calling them 'surrender monkeys' etc., just because they didn't blindly follow your leader (& Tony) and their lies.
Gung Ho politics costs the lives of 100s of thousands in Iraq, more in Afghanistan, and your country complains over a few 100 invaders deaths, we sympathise with the average Iraqi who never wanted US or UK troops in their country, and whose lives have been substantially worse than they ever were under Saddam; it reminds us of the realities of war we experienced twice last century, and Americans know nothing of.
14/ Your CIA has sponsored terrorism all over the world for 55 years, then suffers 1 attack and makes out they are the ones leading the fight against terrorism. This kind of blatant two-faced hypocrisy may wash with brainwashed Americans, the rest of the world has experienced bombs paid for by US Dollars. We also fought Islamic terrorism & communist terrorism in Europe in the 1970s (Bader-Meinhoff, Red September, PLO, PLFP, ETA, IRA), and had got on top of the situation, then the US declares who are 'the axis of evil', destabilising the situation once again, and risking Europeans lives. Just last month, Kurds bombed Turkey before fleeing back under the protection of the US military in N Iraq, because the US need the Kurds onside, or Iraq would really be in Civil War.
I hope this has addressed your question, and given you food for thought.
Good luck.

They are still sore about the beating we gave'em during the US Revolution. And they know we have the best fries, TV programs, and movies around. If you ever visit the UK, all of their best shows on TV are our shows...ER, Simpsons, etc.. It's all they watch.
