It sounds like lack of fuel...if you're lucky, the fuel filter is clogged, which is inexpensive and easy to replace...it could be the fuel pump...you don't say what year , make or model, but I'm assuming your car has fuel injectors...add injector cleaner to your gas tank...hopefully it's not the brainbox...if it's not a fuel problem then get a "diagnostic check" to find out what the problem is.

Not enough information as to make and model and to when the car stalls
Failing fuel pump - Stops the car dead in its tracks.
Stuck EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve. Rough idle and stalling
Bad Spark Plugs and or wires. Misfiring engine can stall
Stuck Idle Control Air Valve. If it is stuck closed, the engine won't idle.
Bad fuel pressure regulator. Low fuel pressure can cause stalling
Dirty Air filter. Not likely, but can cause rough idle
Dirty Fuel Injectors. Not likely, but can cause rough idle.

It would be better to take it to a shop instead of guessing a thousand possibilities. Ask them to run a computerized diagnosis. Make sure the shop you take it to is certified.

Probably needs a tuneup. Could be several different causes. Best bet is a repair shop.
