I love making cakes, and I've been told by many that the cakes I make are the best they have ever had--especially my chocolate cake. It took me over 10 years to perfect this amazing cake. I find it very theraputic to make these cakes. I would love to sell them as "personal cakes" to whoever would like to order one from me. Is this a good idea? I just want to make a few cakes a weeks. It'll be nice if I can a little bit of money from this hobby.

Yes! My aunt converted part of her basement into a professional kitchen to bake. She loved it. No tax ID or company name, but everyone came to her for anything from cupcakes to wedding cakes. (Her icing is the best!) No inspections or anything. She had a photo portfolio of her works, but never passed herself off as a business.

Just do word of mouth...it's the best advertising anyway. Maybe some calling cards (no business name) with your name and phone number so you can hand those out to friends and relatives and co-workers.

Just keep it all sanitary and word will get around how great your cakes are. And take pics of all your creations for your portfolio!

Unless you're interested in the business side of things, keep it a hobby. Know your local laws regarding selling food. Be careful not to grow too fast- you'll end up hating making cakes. Having said that . . .

Besides word of mouth, look around your area for small cafes that might be interested in carrying your cakes. That could be a regular source of income and also a great way to generate custom orders.

Sounds yummy. It's a great idea, especially if you like what you are doing. If you do plan on doing this on the side make sure you get the right permits and licenses. Oh, and don't forget TAXES and health codes. You don't want IRS or the city coming after you for something you didn't know you were doing wrong. You want to make sure you get all the things you need so you don't get in trouble. Good luck!!!

Artisan's breads are consistently astonishing to get from our bakery. once you get into the fried products (donuts) it will make the interest as baker plenty harder. Our bakery would not sell the fried meals, which i won't have it interior the abode besides. stable luck with your organization!

Check with your local board of health if you'll be doing anything other than strict word-of-mouth advertizing. Most cities and states would require you to have a health board certification and regular inspections if you want to sell food items. And as soon as you put that in print or web advertizing, the health board will be wanting to check up on you.
