There is mainly two types of Saltpetre
1) Chile saltpetre
2) Noreweign saltpetre
Among them the first one is more important. It is nothing but Sodium nitrate [NaNO3]. Noreweign salt petre is Basic Calcium nitrate.[Ca(NO3)2].Actually the name of the element Nitrogen comes from saltpetre[ Greek nitron=saltpetre]
