It is absolutley not true that the baby isn't crawling because he/she wants to be held on the time. Believe you me, when they are ready and able, you can't hold on to them. Children who are held develop more quickly because the only way a baby's nerve endings make connections is when they are held.

Do the "This little piggy went to the market" rhyme playing with his toes, read read read picture books - talk about what's on the page, you can pass on tons of vocabulary, get a sling and go for wonderful walks - point out and name and talk about everything you see. take that sling with your baby to museums, galleries, stores you like. talk talk talk

recite every nursery rhyme you know. get a mother goose book if you don't know many.

arrange pots and pans on the floor while you are cooking, take out spoons and other objects to whack the pots with and show that to your baby. fill a small can with a tight lid with rice and let your baby shake that.

there are some plastic toys with magnets inside that are too big for baby to swallow and can be lots of fun, like early blocks.

watching self in the mirror is entertaining for some babies, letting a baby play on a rough bottomed shower with the water running can be fun for them (you must be there, of course.)

An 8 month old that doesnt crawl and likes to he held all the time is in this condition because it is held all the time.

What the child needs is supervised tummy time, and time interacting one on one with its environment, instead of being constantly soothed and intertained in someones arms.

Pull out some exciting toys and lay them on the floor within reach, and then sit or lay with the infant and play with those toys together. help the infant roll over front to back and back to front by pulling it into a roll and letting the baby finish it.

Anything with fun sounds, lights or colors is excellent. If the weather is nice take the baby out and sit in the yard and play with some toys. Anythign that will stimulate it to want to move or interact.

First of all check if the baby is pigeon toed or bowlegged, every child is different. Second but the baby don't, if he wasn't to be held all the time it's because he normally is. My nephew is pigeon toed and bowlegged (his father's side) he didn't start crawling until 10 months and just started walking at 16 months. He was held all the time by his father's Grandmother and wanted to be held all the time. i would say to let him see toys on the ground that are alittle out of reach on his tummy, help him with sit up time with putting his hands on the floor sitting up supporting himself. Put him on his tummy, and if he rolls over put him back on his tummy. and you shouyd be alittle out of reach and say come to mommy.

Put a nice soft blanket on the floor, where they can watch you and let them roll around while you work. This will give an incentive for them to start crawling, and you have some free time.

Have yo tried an excersaucer. Its the seat with a table all around it with those little activities. Those are really great my son loved it. The little chair either moves back and forth or spins around. All infants love them.

Get your baby a "Jumperoo". They are about $60 at Toys R Us. My daughter LOVED hers! It is safe and stationary but light enough to move from room to room. They have lights, music and toys. It is also great exercise for baby too!

put your baby on his/her tummy, this will strengthen the muscles and can be entertaining to watch, but for the baby it will be a new look at things and he will try to roll over.stop holding the baby so much. give him toys and colors and pictures of animals to look at.
