We have to send a gift to a friend. At the bottom of the gift card, we wrote down "From the Smith family". I know that this is correct. But what about "From the Smiths", is that correct too?

They both work, and depending on how friendly you are, you could say: "From Jenny and Bob Smith, and the kids" or something similar. Any formality or closeness depends on your relationship!

That is unless you aren't Jenny and Bob.....

If there is more than one Smith, then the "The Smiths" (no apostrophe) is correct.
Here's an incorrect. A guy in the neighborhood has a sign outside. It says: The Smith's Family.

You can also write it: From the Smiths, Bob, Alice, John, and Cynthia.

Of course, I'd use the correct names - which are customarily written in the order of age, after dad and then mom, that is.
