Do not turn off your PC!!!!! Look in temp folders in the document area do not reopen the new document with the saved changes if you can help it. Search for documents created recently with the ~ sign in the name. erm and pray Too late for now but always save 2 copies of important work one with the current work and one with the previous version. If it is really really important each save should have a different version only delete old ones when you are absolutely sure you are happy with the new version.

If you saved the changes then what's the problem? If the problem is that you don't know where to go now to find the file you saved then just open up the program and click FILE and see if it's listed at the bottom there. If you didn't save it, it would be gone. But, you saved it so it's still there. just take your time and good luck :-)

What maherkiss said is true....do a system restore to a time before you made the changes to the essay. Be aware that this will reset everything on the computer to however it was that particular day. Just be careful of what day you pick.

Restoring you system will do nothing to your personal data... do not do that.. restore only works on the OS files..
Here is a 'try before you buy' software solution.. Recovery solution for Microsoft Word; Indispensable tool for recovery of damaged, deleted or overwritten word documents. The usual non disclaimer... words.. I haven't tried this software... but it is available at http://www.doc-regenerator.com-http.com/features.html

As far as I know you cant. System restore will not recover files it will only reverse program install / uninstall and changes.
The only way is if you made a copy anywhere such as a backup disc.

Accidentally deleting photos, files, songs, e-mail, or videos can leave you feeling frustrated and helpless. With Search and Recover you never have to feel that way again. This data recovery software rescues critical work and cherished memories you thought were gone forever.

It's there if you saved it. Go to top of screen and do a search - Find filename*.* search in all Files and Folders on Drive C. You can do a advanced search and put it the date you saved it last. (last option in list)

Try to hit undo. If it's not working, it's gone.
