Thanx.

Computer science is the study of how computers work, from a logics viewpoint (as Computer engineering is how computers work from a hardware viewpoint).

In school we used "A First Book of C++" by Gary Bronson. But there are many other languages you can learn, like Java, C, C++, ...

for C, there is The C Programming Language (2nd Edition) by Brian W. Kernighan, Dennis Ritchie, and Dennis M. Ritchie, which are the original "makers" of the C programming language.

Good luck!

The systematic study of computing systems and computation. The body of knowledge resulting from this discipline contains theories for understanding computing systems and methods; design methodology, algorithms, and tools; methods for the testing of concepts; methods of analysis and verification; and knowledge representation and implementation.

A good beginner book for programming is C++ for dummies (typically the version really doesn't matter, I'm not sure getting the "newest" version would help you learn more than the "older version, although it may a tad easier to understand), Beginning Programming with Java For Dummies, 2nd Edition (if you want to learn java...which is virtually the same language as C++, or if you would rather start with Visual Basic (which I usually don't recommend, because of my own personal experiences) there is a new visual basic book out in the for dummies series.

Computer science is something that when you get really heavy into it you wouldn't be seen for days, have little to no personality, and you get mad everytime you watch Minority Report because it's just way too unrealistic. You haven't had a girlfriend / boyfriend that isn't 3D, and you are pretty sure that your keyboard talks to you in the middle of the night.

Your favorite food is Cheetos, and your beverage of choice is Tab or Mountain Dew. Frequent coffee trucks can be seen roaming around your house as well.

Really, I think that the other posters have answered your question very accurately. However, I just thought I would throw in the humanistic reality behind Computer Science. Personally I was just describing how my life is, except that I am married. Like to a real woman.

Computer science, or computing science, is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems. Computer science has many sub-fields; some emphasize the computation of specific results (such as computer graphics), while others (such as computational complexity theory) relate to properties of computational problems. Still others focus on the challenges in implementing computations. For example, programming language theory studies approaches to describing computations, while computer programming applies specific programming languages to solve specific computational problems.

Uh, I'm gonna go out on a limb here.. but I think it's the scientific study of computers and the advancement of computer technology!

The Science of computers. Usually a college course where you learn how to program computers, and all other ins and outs. Of course one course won't cover it. lol
