Sugar is extracted mainly from sugar cane and beets.
Juice is evaporated to produce sugar by taking the raw material through few steps.
There are other vegetation that contribute to the world sugar supply but they are not very economical to harvest(Produce sugar from).
The Maple, date palm, Toddy or Nira.... sap can yield sugar and for that matter any sweet sap from any tree can be processed in to sugar. Most of the sweet fruits can also be used to produced sugar.
In India they produce Gur Or Gore and get sugar by further refinement. This way certain parts of the factory can operate year around.

"Table sugar" could be made from the sweet juice of sugar cane or the sweet juice of sugar beets. Either way it is crushed out of the starting source and heated to form molasses (thick dark syrup). [The leftover cane is used to make fiber board and the leftover beets are cattle food.] Then the molasses is filtered and crystallized to form white sugar. If it is completely cleared by filtering the sugar is white crystals only. If some molasses coloring and stickiness is still in there it is brown sugar. Confectioner's sugar is made by grinding sugar crystals into fine powder.
There are other sugary sweeteners made from fruits and from corn syrup.

It grows on a plant, called the sugar cane. It is harvested from the stock of the plant, and refined into granualar form for use. You can also extract sugar from Sugar Beets. This is another plant that can provide the sucrose that is needed for refining into sugar.

Well I believe that after the cane is pressed, the juice is processed. There are many steps to this and I suggest you should run a search on "sugar manufacturing process" and get the real info.

Bone char, made from the bones of cows, is at times used to whiten sugar. Some sugar companies use it in filters to decolorize their sugar. Other types of filters involve granular carbon or an ion exchange system rather than bone char.
