what do bank chequing account numbers mean?

Printed on the bottom of the check, starting at the left are a 9 digit routing number which is a number assigned to your bank, it is followed by the check number, then the account number. There are other symbols that are used to separate the numbers.

For many banks the account number may be two parts which are the branch number and the number within the branch,
