costume contests are fun focus on the silliest, the most original, the prettiest ect. make a lot of prizes so that almost everyone will get a prize, some of the prizes may be a cream pie in the face make sure you use aprons so you don't ruin clothes.
have a halloween dance. just everyone in costume and music playing until the games start!
something else you can do is write down dares, prizes, acts ect. and slip them into a balloon. blow up the baloon and chose random people from the audience. each person has to pop the balloon by sitting on it. once they've popped the balloon they must do whatever it says inside the balloon.
another one is to pack flour really tightly into a measuring cup, put the flour in it's dome shape on top of a plate. in the middle of the dome put a washed coin. each person out of around 7 has a knife. they must cut a slice of the flour away from the coin. the person that makes the coin fall must put on an apron. and get the coin only using their mouth. nobody wins this game but it's really fun!
oh, when we did the balloon game we blindfolded a person, you should blind fold about 10 because you should have a bigger group. you don't have to though. we put some baloons in a box and put a sheet over the top, i drug this out and when people saw it they got kind of queasy. we then put the blind fold on our volounteer. who wasn't feeling so good. we told them that they were to grab whatever was in that box. nobody knew what was inside except me. we kept reasurring the girl that we didn't think they bit, but we knew they didn't have rabies and stuff like that to freak her out. i stepped behind the box. and grabbed the sheet. i slid it in one quick moion off of the box, everyone screamed! nobody was scared but we all acted. by now, the girl was really freaked out. she leaned in and reached. her hand touched a balloon and she calmed down. it's a balloon. that was a great trick for halloween!
hanging apples from the ceiling and tying your hands together. is always fun!
bobbing for apples is cool, if you do it do it with dry ice and a black juice or drink. that would be fun.
what is amazingly fun is to hang apples from the cieling, rafters ect. and tie their hands behind their back. The first person to eat the whole apple wins! this is very hard to do! and very fun!
another thing to do is to blindfold one person from the crowd. Sit them down in a chair, ply a kind of eerie music. make sure that everyone is quiet, tell them all you are trying to make contact with a ghost! Make up a ghost story about someone who haunts people and killed someone. you are trying to contact the person that was murdered. make sure that the lights are on. after you say the story hold their hands and tell them that this is necessary to make contact. have everyone else play along. when you begin to start channeling and (nothing is happening) suddenly the lights switch off. Say Hey turn the lights back on! who turned the lights off? everyone says that they didn't and start to act kind of freaked out..
Then have someone break some glass, like a cheap cup inside the sink. have some of the younger kids start to whine and tell them it's okay and to be quiet, then have someone play a wine glass. then one kid screams and shouts look! then another and another and another scream they all start running clawing screaming away from the person. shouting run run! make it believable. maybe a guy or two saying aw he doesn't scare me! ect. then have someone come in big boots towards the blindfolded person stomp stomp stomp. right towards him you start to slide your chair backwards and start to muffle a scream! we didn't mean to. we didn't mean to were sorry we're sorry! take me not him(or her)please please! Then the person has cold spaggeti and grabs their neck with it and breaths really hard and fast. in a snap the light turns on, the person vanishes, your chair falls down and you rush towards him and pull of their blindfold and ask them if they are okay? the kids are all gone and you call them back. afterwards you tell them that it was all a joke. that would be really funny! make sure the person is nice kind of easily scared and good natured
hope that your party rocks!
I know my halloween will

If I was 13 and given the choice - I'd take the $1300 and say screw the party. $1300 may seem like a lot, but it's really not. Works out to abourt $35/ guest. by the time you've fed everyone with snacks and such you're probably down to about $20/guest. Figure invite mailing/printing bring it down to about $17/guest. A DJ might cost you between $400-600 depending on where you're located and how long you'd need it for. 38 people - probably closer to 45-50 when you include others that come along (parents that hang out, crashers, etc) you better have a large space at your home.

if you have a beam on the ciling this is fun. you get yarn, and tie it to a large donut, and dangle it from a beam, line 3 in a row and let the kids race to see who can eat the donut off the string first. this works with apples or pears too if they have a sturdy stem to tie the yarn too. if you don't have a beam, it could be tied to a broom stick held by two people, or if outside is an option, use tree branches.
you can play witch witch ghost too, ( duck duck goose)
pin the skull on the skeleton ( get a cardboard large decorative skeleton and disassemble a bone, and blind fold the kids and have them put the bone in the right place)
don't forget the pinata... they have them at walmarts currently, ghosts, witches, frankensteins etc.
also you could have contest prizes for best costume, scariest costume, coolest costume, prettiest costome, most realistic costume, best makeup etc.
you could play hide en go seek in the dark, give each kid a flash light and let them find each other around the yard, or in the house
balance a hard boiled egg on a table spoon and hold the end of the spoon in their mouth, or if their young, in their hand and have them relay race in two teams.
Count Dracacula Says ( Simon Says )
Whose behind the door? Have one child stand behind a door, and answer yes or no questions as to what their imaginary character is... a theme like Disney Cartoons works great. IE: is your character an animal? yes. is your character 4 legged? no, is your character furry? yes, is your character male? no. is your character a mama? yes, is your character a kangaroo? yes, is your character Mrs Roo from Winnie the Pooh? YES!

Have a best costume game, where the kids get to vote for who has the best costume.
Do a game like "pin the tail on the donkey", but make it something like "pin the hat on the witch".
You could also have a halloween pinata, and fill it with candy.
Have fun, and goodluck with all those kids!

At the Halloween party we are having for our kids we are going to break up a bail of hay and hide change and prizes in it. On of my friends did this at her party and the kids were occupied for hours with it. Other ideas... Bobbing for apples, eat the hot dog wiener off a hanging string (kids are blind folded and they can't use their hands. Whoever eats it all first wins.), Guess what's in the brains(kids stick their hands in cooked spaghetti and guess what the objects are inside without looking at them) and a three legged race. I am sure we will do some of these things at our party. Happy haunting!!!

guess whats in the bag. Have them put their hand in a bag and have them tell you what it is. Like in one bag put some of that fake slime stuff, and in another put cooked spagetti, etc. You could write on the bag, crushed eyeballs, entrails, etc. Bobbing for apples is fun. Have a costume party parade and then choose the best dressed, most original, creepiest, etc.

You don't say what age the kids attending are going to be. You don't want to do games that would be considered immature or childish. I remember one game the kids loved was to have flashlights and go outside and run around looking for the others and play flashlight tag.

Wisper a secret. Start with wispering a secret from person to person. See what it's like at the end.
Give directions for drawing a cat. Don't tell them that it's a cat. Circle, two pointed upside down V's... See if anybody gets a cat.
