GET THE TUNE UP FOR THE PEACE OF MIND AND ASK THE PERSON WHO DOES THE JOB WHEN WILL YOU NEED TO BRING IT BACK FOR ANOTHER TUNE UP; PUT A MARK IN YOUR CALENDAR TO REMIND YOURSELF. YOU ARE READY TO SPEND THE MONEY ANYWAYS AND THIS CAN NO HURT YOUR CAR IN ANY WAY.

How often are you getting an oil change? It should be every 3000 miles for regular oil and every 6000 for synthetic oil. If you bought it with 55K on it, it should have a tune up at 60K. Next time you buy a car with that kind of mileage (which is great for an 01) negotiate a tune up into the deal.

Follow the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual. It'll tell you what to do and when to do it. You don't say if you're the original owner of the car or not. If you are, you know what services have been done. If not, take it to the local dealer and let them recommend what services need to be done. Talk to them. Find out what's due and how much it will cost. Service writers (or service advisors) are a great resource for keeping your car in tip-top shape.

You should always change your oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months.........which doesn't sound like what you're doing since it's only been 2 oil changes.

As for the tune-up. I would say to do it around 60k miles. Have them check the minor things (spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter) and the major things (timing belt which around 60k miles for a change is about right)

Change the air filter if its running kind of rugged. Then if so go somewhere and have the sparkplugs changed. If you go into a car place and say give me a tune up they are most likely going to take you to the bank. If you have the money support the local economy.

Check the owner's booklet.
It says when you should do it.
55K is a lot, so probably you will have to get a tune up anyway.

I believe the tune up is at 75000 miles, you can check the owners manual if it didn't come with one the people at the
oil change place can tell you what the manufactorer says the milage should be for the tune up . . .

Not unless the car is running badly. If you change the oil ever 3000 miles then you should be OK.

If it is running good, you can wait a while. If the mechanic doesn;t do it right it could be worse after a tune up than before you had it serviced.

on a 2001, that might be a push. new cars go for 100,000 miles now, and then there isn't much to do, change the plugs, check that the wires aren't arcing.
