If a playstation 3 is what he want, get it for him. Why risk getting him something he won't like.

It all depends if you have that much money to get that for him or not. If not, then get him a game for a system he does have.
I am having the same problem with my fiance. His birthday is next month and then Christmas after that. We just moved so a lot of our money is gone. He loves model trains, but I know nothing about them, what he has or doesn't have, etc. I don't know many of his friends well enough to ask them, and I won't have a lot of money since it is HIS money I would be using. So, I guess I am stuck. Darn it!
