There isn't anything wrong with getting a little help with HW. That is why the category is here called HW Help.

You're not the only one who has asked that question on this site, and the answer is yes people should be doing their homework. I'm a teacher so I'm aware of the difference between helping a person with their work and just giving them the answer. When I do answer homework help questions I always try to show all my work and explain my steps. I also don't always answer the question the whole way I help set up the problem and tell the person to finish for the answer on their own. But like anything else there are people on the site who will just give the answer with no work and no explanation. Oh well. For the people who truly need some guidance they can get that here and for the people who are looking for the quick answer they can get that here as well. I'm content with the knowledge that those people will not be able to use Yahoo!Answers on their tests or quizzes.

Enjoy your day. :)

Of course they should.

But it's homework and not a test. The purpose of homework is to understand the material in preparation for the test.

I am going on the assumption that if someone asks on here about a homework assignment, then that person is honestly struggling with the material. Most of the time, it takes longer for the student to type in the question than it does to actually work it out.

I don't doubt that *some* students are cheating and using us to get his homework done. He can do that anywhere. And it'll show when he is unable to do well on the test. I'd rather be a chump for a cheater than the ignore the pleas of someone who honestly needs help.

And I never just give the answer. The student learns nothing then. I explain how I got that answer. It helps because we're all human and make mistakes. At least if I goof up, the student can see what I was trying to do. That's more helpful than me just posting a wrong answer.

I'm an older student at community college. I use this site to pass along some of what I am learning, I especially look for people who seem stuck. If I notice people posting an inordinate number of similar questions, I try to thank them once or twice for the points. When I do answer I walk them through the steps. I hope they'll be able to solve other problems after my explanation, and thus do well on their tests.
