When meteorologists say an "easterly wind", that means it is coming from the east. This is because the wind tends to carry the humidity and temperature of the area from which it originates. So, for example, in the Central United States, a northerly wind, which comes from Canada and the Polar Regions generally brings cooler and drier air.

Yes...it's from the east. Hence the name "Nor-easter" - a storm w/winds predominantly blowing out of the northeast. HOWEVER, It's a bit of a misnomer, since it's blowing around in a spiral, and at some point, the wind will hit you from each direction! Ahh...the joy of living in New England. Technically, all hurricans and tropical storms are "nor-easters" once they pass the Tradewind westerlies (predominant winds blowing west to east, near the Equator) and head north.
I think out in the High Plains, like Montana, since storms winds usually come from the North or West, they call them "Northers"???
Weather is so interesting...!

If you wet your finger then hold it out to the wind, you will feel the wind cold on the side of your finger that it is blowing so if the east side of your finger gets cold then it will be an easterly wind.

Blowing from the east. For instance, I live in the MidAtlantic states and we get Nor'easters. The wind is blowing up and around from the northeast.
