Refine your definition of poverty first, since it is relative. Then we can start figuring out solutions from there.

We need to do what we can with our means, if we have accepted The Lord into our life, the mose beneficial thing we can do is pray for the needy, we can take baby steps to help out, by doing what we can, and if enough people can do that then it will make a difference, if every one would pitch in with thier heart it would really make a difference, but definitely pray, that is the biggest thing we can do.

If Congress, Professional athletes, and big time celebs gave half of their incomes to clothe and shelter about 10 families a piece, then it would be no poverty. But you would then have to educated these poor people so that they can function in society and hold down a job or be able to create a job for themselves legally.

The only way to prevent poverty is to not want to live in poverty. One has to want to get up and act on one’s own behalf. Unfortunately this can't be taught & because of that society will always be left with those who refuse to act and instead either try to find the easy way out or give up and give in to the endless cycle. For others, the opportunity to rise above our collective poverty is enough to grab hold of and take are far as it may be taken. But we will never abolish poverty because there will always be those who refuse to rise above it. Whether out of fear, convenience or laziness makes no difference. It is simply that they will not act. Something has short-circuited their own self-preservation mechanism and allows them to sit in the rancid pools of bare and futile existence.

You can't. Some people refuse to work. And they DESERVE to be poor.

Provide everyone with equal opportunity and let the chips fall where they may. Amen.
