This is true. You are allowed to work but if you make over $2000 a month then they will start cutting off amounts on your monthly check. You do have to report this to S.S. every month.

Be very careful. Go to legal aid for some help on this. The law may have changed -- BUT

SSI is a program available only if a person is unable to be gainfully employed due to an illness or disability. That is, totally unable to be employed. So, if she becomes employable (or gets a part time job), then, arguably, she has proven that she COULD be employed, and therefore SSI benefits could cease.

As I said, the law may have changed, but you do not want to risk losing ALL of the benefits in order to save a few. This is the kind of queston that you should be able to get answered at a legal aid society near you.

Good luck.

She can work a low wage job with probably low hours and make extra on the side and still receive her checks.

She can work part-time. Varies from state to state. Or under the table, naturally. You can't find her a job. She's got to do this herself.
