Sammy Hagar has a much more powerful and controlled voice, but David Lee Roth was the better showman by far.

You guys are all crazy!!! Everybody knows that Van Halen was the greatest with David Lee Roth. He may not be the better singer but he was easily the better performer and that is more important in the music business. Van Halen was a lot more fun with DLR too, with songs like "Jump" and "Hot for Teacher". Hagar was a downer with "Right Now".

David Lee Roth, he and his band, Van Halen, had asound that rocketed them to fame in the late seventies to mid eighties. Simultaneously Sammy Hagar and his group accomplished similar stardum. Soon after that, as all shooting stars fade, so did the popularity of both groups. Roth and his guys soon fell out amongst themselves and created a vaccuum for lead singer which brought a union of sorts now known as"Van Hagar", who were not nearly as popular as the original of either band. As for the best " van" group, I would definitely say the
'halens' are, were, and always shall be number one.

Someone asked this question the other day. Both are good, but i think DLR was better. After Sammy joined, the songs became more oriented around love, and not so much about what rock n roll is really about, partying and women. I have every CD they put out, even the one with Gary Sharone, and DLR is the best. That's just my opinion, though. I will admit, Sammy is a very good entertainer, and he was the lead singer the three times I saw them in concert, but they had better music with DLR.

That's tough.
Diamond David was good and so was Sammy.
But, David Lee Roth was a little too full of himself and he looks like a crack addict.
I'd have to go with Sammy.

The best albums are with Sammy. Most of the stuff with David is goofy & forgettable & only have 2 or 3 good songs per album. 5150 blows all of the previous crap away. Every song on 5150 is awesome! I never cared for Van Halen until 5150.
