I've had 2 children the Natural way...I'm terrified of having pain medication while in labor because of the side effects...I'm 22 weeks pregnant now with my 3rd and I'm doing it the Natural way again... My first child birth was horrid I felt all the pain and it dragged on for 22 hours and they had to break my water, but when it was over I had more energy than the lady in the next room who had an epidural and 12 hours of labor... She was tired from the meds... My 2nd child birth was so easy, I felt all the pain but I stayed relaxed and I delivered him in 7 hours flat... I was up and moving as soon as the doctor said I could safely get up... *an hour later* I lost a lot of blood.... I can't wait to feel that wonderful pain for the last time in February... So I'd say YES the pain is So worth it... It also gives me bragging' rights over the other ladies that chose to have med's...lol.... **No offense to those of you who needed the med's for medical reasons**.... It made me feel extra special... And my husband loves me so much more for not endangering our babies with unnecessary med's...

Some called me brave, some said I was clueless to how much it would hurt.
I didn't want my baby to come out woozy and drugged and I didnt want to risk the epidural and not be able to walk the rest of my life.
I was firm in the fact that I would do it natural.
When I told my doctor that I would not be signing up for the epidural, he said okay....however, I went 42 weeks (because at 36, my son was trying to come out and the doctor said he wanted to make him wait til he was 38 weeks so he put me on pills to stop contractions). Anyway, I guess the baby was mad we stopped him, so he stayed in til he was 42 weeks and the doctor induced me.
The pain was crazy right there at the very end and I just kept saying over and over that I was hurting, so the nurse then asked me if I wanted some medication, and I stupidly said yes. I was only about 6 or 7 centimeters dialated by then and she gave me medication and I immediately regretted it. I felt woozy and ... well, drugged. I hate the feeling and I thought I was going to have the baby and still be drugged.
Thankfully, the medication wore off in an hour (it put me to sleep) and I woke up in pain again. BUT half an hour later, labor started. I said no to more medication and 20 minutes of pushing, out came my 7lb 15oz bundle of joy, Preston Anthony. I was lucky with a 'short labor', and yes, although it was painful, it was nice being alert when they gave me my son.
I wouldnt have wanted to have felt the same way I did when they gave me the medicine when he was born because I would have felt tired and high holding him and that's not what I would have wanted. I ignored the pain once he was in my arms, and I know you will too.
Good luck with your pregnancy, labor, and your baby.

I personally never had a child yet but my good friend just gave birth last month, she was set to do natural child birth, she was thinking she was going to do it all through her pregnancy but when she went into labor, it was too much for her and in went the epidural. Dont let that discourage you though, If you really want to do it, you can pull it off, I bet your strong, its really a wonderful thing, epidural or not child birth is a sacred moment in a mother's life so do what you want and congrats =)

I say make three plans. Plan A - Natural. Plan B - Medication. Plan C - C Section. You never know what is going to happen so you need to be prepared beforehand. Almost every single woman I ever met told me that she was going to go natural on her first, including myself. Alot don't, for various reasons. There is no shame in pain medication and no one should make you feel as if there is - labor hurts, especially if the doctor has to break your bag of waters, and different people have different pain thresholds and different levels of pain in labor. Also, I had no side effects from any of the epidurals I had, and all the doctors have assured me that as a local anestetic epidurals have no effect on the baby. One even compared it to getting a shot in your arm for pain in your arm and expacting it to deform your toe. lol I have four children and am pregnant with our fifth. Good Luck.

I have had Two and don't regret either one. I am now pregnant with my third and am planning to do it all natural again. It is painful but so worth it. Women should be able to do something natural, It's been done that way since the first child birth.

My first two deliveries were natural. I never regretted it for a minute. I actually don't remember there being a lot of pain. The second one was a breeze, in fact the Doctor almost didn't arrive in time to catch the baby. My third pregnancy I had twins and due to a birth defect I had to have C-section for the safety of one of the babies. I would never reccommend a c-section to anyone, it was one of the worst experiences in my life. Whatever choice you make, remember its your choice and also remember that sometimes God takes control and you mat have to change your plans, in the end do what is right for you and the baby.

Well, an epidural isn't going to harm you child. BUT, I would not discourage you in any way. I actually tried it myself...my labor was just taking a long time, and I was exhausted, so I got the epidural. I think I will try natual again though.
Good Luck!

I had an epidural and I didn't regret that. I think any woman that gives birth is a brave woman. OK, I think all women that are living up to their potential are brave women. While I have respect for women that have had child birth naturally, there is more to a brave woman.

I wouldn't consider myself brave. I just happened to have a birth that was nothing like all the stories I have heard. I had no need whatsoever for any medication, and I was very pleased and very grateful for my experience.
I would say try it, if you feel that strongly about it, but don't feel bad if you can't get through it without some type of help.

I had all of mine (all four) without pain medicine, very long labor too. No medicine at all. but when I was in the labor room with my daughter and she smiled all the way through it because she had an epidural, I decided that was the way to go.
