Honey, I cannot answer for that one white lady. All white people are not like that even though it doesn't seem like it. I think it maybe the turban. You know there really are ignorant Americans. With the terrorism scare, they think everyone who covers there head in anything but a baseball cap, cowboy hat, or scully then they must be a terrorist. According to this society I am a Black American or most would say Afro or African-American ( I have NEVER been to the country so I will settle for Black)

Anyway, dear you are not the only minority who has been discriminated against. We all have been there in some kind of way. If you are not a white male, then most likely you may have encountered something of the sort.

First off, I'd ask where in Colorado was he? I was born in Denver and go back all the time to see family and I see a bunch of minorities when I'm there. But if it was a small town it's possible they just don't like people who don't live there. It might have zero to do with skin color. And you can't make harsh generalizations based on the actions of a few a people. To say that everyone in Colorad is ignorant because of a few rude people is like me saying your dad must work at 7-11 or drive a cab since he wears a turban. See how stupid profiling is?

I really AM going to answer your question, but, I'm just curious as to why some posters use all caps like you've done. To me, rather than "really get your point across", which I'm assuming is the reason you used all caps, it just seems kind of strange.

As for people who live in areas where the majority of people there are white, I think it's a little unfair to label white people who live in these areas as racist simply because of where they choose to live. There are racists everywhere. Sure, some areas have more racists than other areas, but you can't just put all Caucasian people who live in Colorado, Montana and other states with high Caucasian populations in a box and label them racist. That's stereotyping.

Sorry your dad had such crappy experiences though. From the info you've provided, it was probably your dad's turban that caused most of the negative reactions he received, though I'm not trying to excuse the behavior of the people your dad encountered. It sounds like the people your dad encountered were pretty narrow-minded. It is possible though, that had your dad encountered people living in the same areas he visited who DIDN'T treat him negatively, he would have come away with a totally different perspective on the places he visited.

I guess the bottom line is, just be glad you and your dad aren't narrow-minded like that. We can't change people - all we can do is work on ourselves.

I am "white" American from Idaho... I have been to 45 of the 48 continental United States. and into Canada... I have been to every country on the Mediteranian except the former comunist ones... I have been to Panama and Columbia and many of the islands of the Carabiean... I have had direct and personal contact with the average citizens of these countries.... I have been treated with disrespect in every one of them and in all of the States of The United States...But.... I have also been treated most kindly and with great freindship... most espacialy in countries where I did not speak one word of the local language... There are bigoted racist jerks every where and of every ethnisity and race.... I have met folks with turbans...mostly in the U.S. some were racist bigoted jerks... some were kind and helpful... a turban don't automaticaly bring respect.. and dose not make one respectable...

I was stranded in an all black small town in Mississippi in the middle of the night... got a lot of disrespect... but... also got help from a family that was most kind and welcoming to a lonly trucker brokedown in the middle of nowhere...had a real meal in a real house at a real table for the first time in many weeks... and good company while waiting for the repair truck... so I know there are good and bad everywhere...

I'm white and I've been dissed, and I just ignore it. Do not fall victim to the Fallacy of Generalization: not everybody is a racist and most real Americans don't care about race (even though we are incessantly told that we do.)

Sorry your dad had a bad experience. The one white lady who ignored him on purpose is not indicative of white people. I promise to slap her silly next time I'm in Colorado.

stay able the place blacks or mex, out populate then you definately will relate. Hell maximum blacks i comprehend dont prefer to stay next to a gaggle of blacks. We could have white trash, yet some issues we dont do, we dont shoot our sort in force bys, sell drugs to our babies, pimp our babies, we regularly marry the girl we knock up, in case you sell drugs in our area to young ones you finally end up ineffective. in the experience that your impolite to old people we whip your ***. in case you bypass into someones sources and do injury you pay for it. sure we've an awful lot incorrect in our white custom from prescrit drug matters, to a lot of idiots, yet as quickly as we've a disaster in our area we dont loot a save in a flood and carry a 40 two inch flash reveal screen over our heads as we wade for the period of the flooded areas, we comprehend we wont have the potential to plug it in. we've those checklist by way of fact in factor of certainty extremely we like it or not the places with intense populations of minorities dont provide a **** with regard to the valuables or the area, or the folk.

Sorry about your Dad's bad experience, but don't condemn an entire group of people because of it. I'm sure a lot of people living
in Colorado would have been happy to help him if they
had been there.

Racism is everywhere unfortunately. Ignorance is bliss for some who are closed minded. You're doing what they did. you assumed that all whites in predominately white areas are racist, whereas they assumed anyone with a turban is a terrorist. See what we've become?
