Just after the disaster the guards explained to Bush what had happened, but Bush just stayed there and continued reading.

Bush was in Florida reading to a group of elementary school kids at the time of the attack. He stayed calm all the way through and read to the kids until the second building was hit. then of course went into presidental action.

He was reading to some children at an Elementary school in Florida and speaking to them about the importants of reading. He then flew to Barksdale AFB and set up ground command. I know this because I was at this base and have seen the historical museum and had many friends who told me of how tight the base was locked down and everything in the area of the 8th Air Force base was blocked off from being driven to.
