I'm an independent because I refuse to join a party and support the fat, hidden parasites that run things from behind the scenes. They pick the candidates for their own reasons and tell us what we want to hear. I vote only because it's better to at least have a little leverage.

But that's changed since the Bush regime took over. I'm not a conservative or a liberal, but I'll vote against every Republican to express my anger at the last remnants of democracy being stolen. Apart from the loss of constitutional freedoms, violations of international law and human decency, they have set up a rigged election system with the Diebold Voting Machines.

Bush and his cronies are tyrants, bullies, thieves and worse. If we ever get back what we've lost, hopefully we'll be much more vigilant about protecting it in the future.

I never am mistaken for a liberal, however because I am a traditionalist sometimes I will get referred to as a Republican. The Independants that I know are much more conservative than any liberal would ever be able to accept. Are you really Independant or just blurring the lines yourself because you don't want to truly commit? If you are going to stand on thin ice you might as well dance.

I have the opposite problem. I am independent, but lean to the conservative side. I am constantly accused of being a stupid Republican. The reason I am independent is because no party represents the whole of my views. So rather than voting for a party I prefer to vote based on specific issues and people. The problem today is a matter of partisan thinking. While most people are very moderate in their views no matter which party they belong to it is the partisans on both side who are the most vocal. If you disagree with a partisan on any issue you will immediately be lumped in as part of what they consider the opposition. This is because they are wholly incapable of stepping out of the partisan thinking mode to acknowledge any position other than their own. Don't let it bother you and just remember that you know who and what you are and your vote counts the same as theirs.

YES! I don't understand that at all. Only once did someone say I was a conservative. We were talking fiscal stuff. ALL other times I get called Liberal. Amazing.

I am also very sensitive about this and I don't know why.

Maybe I need to go to the Psych Yahoo Answers and ask for help.

Vote for the BEST, not a party!

I am neither Republican, Independent or Democrat. I would be Libertarian but there are no viable candidates in NJ. I am alternately accused of being a conservative or a liberal depending on the issue.

I'm a democrat, but i believe the reason is because many of the independent platform views coincide with the democratic platform views. when those views hit the media that's as far as people look into it and therefor lump you with democrats, ... people see independents as middle of the road democrats who don't want to pick a party and they see the green party as extreme eco-aware democrats.
