No offence but would it not be more exciting if the women dressed in veils rather dressed up in mickey mouse and donald duck costumes...
Just the two holes to see through...and make it more interesting for people on the street....

No offense taken, my friend. To answer your question, no, women dressing in veils would definitely NOT be more exciting than if every woman in the world woke up one morning and decided to throw on a Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck costume. I mean, picture it, people -- the streets teeming with these lovable Disney characters carrying purses and book bags and the like. That would be unbelievably wacky and fun.
I can't weigh in on Jack Straw's reaction. Maybe you could shoot him an e-mail and find out though.

I think that the main reason that these women started to wear the veils to begin with was probably because of their male partners and their jealousy they wanted to hide them away from other men and keep them to themselves! and over time it became culture.
As I understand it the royal family wore veils to shield their identity from the general public many years ago and others began to pick up the fashion statement but it is not a religious requirement. And do not get me started on religion!
But I have probably got it all wrong as usual!!
