...showed maps of Manhatten with cocentric rings on them? Apparently there were plans on a cross-Atlantic nuclear mission had they ever gotten The Bomb.

I'm sure they did have plans. Thank goodness we stole all their scientists.

Actually I have heard this, but I don't know if they were planning an atomic attack (assuming the maps really existed).
There have been more substantiated reports of German subs just off our eastern coast, and Japanese subs off California. They , of course, never actually engaged in military action.
This was all too long ago to be scary now. Even this close to Halloween!!

There has never been any proof that those maps existed. As to the U-Boats never having engaged in military action off the east coast Of the U.S., that is patently false. There were thousands of tons of shipping sank off the east coast as well as the southern coast.
