Sometimes I catch myself grimacing in various ways when doing something tedious, like (for instance) painting along a window and not using masking or painters tape. I have often wondered what this action accomplishes.

never experienced that myself with tedious things. But I have done that with things that require extended attention and concentration. I think what I am doing is trying to physically hold my thoughts in that one place, which is impossible so it must all be psycological. We're just nuts, I guess.

I totally know what you mean. My brother purses his lips whenever he strums guitar and I think it's so funny!

As for "why" we do things like that? I would say it probably has something to do with the relaxation in the muscles in the face because the brain is sidetracked.

I find that I do the same thing. I think it is our way of concentrating on what we are doing that makes us make that face. We get so into it that we all have our own expressions we seem to make.

I think it is a reflection of your thoughts about doing the project. If you find it particularly distasteful your facial expression will show it.

Its human nature we just do it without thinking about it. Just like a reflex.
