I grew up in a family of artists.....I am a scientist....when the world attacks me I always turn to art. I paint, I draw, I visit museums, I listen to music, I attend plays, operas, movies, concerts.....
People that think art does not affect them are being ignorant of what art is....this is not a slam against them but merely an attempt to expose how much art is a part of the world. The creation of the world was art in its best form, with God as the first artist. Medicine, can be seen as art of the body....science as art of nature....philosophy as art of thought....We are all affected by art if we are only able to open our eyes.
The fact that the arts are being torn from school systems is the greatest tragedy because it is removing our ability to think outside of boxes. Without art I would be so depressed and dark.

Like most things, art gets me to wondering. Certain paintings like Van Goghs "starry night" and Michelangelo's "The creation of Adam" moves and inspires me, but art affects me more in the process of how anything artistic is created. Whether it's painting a masterpiece of art or creating a piece of moving music, or even making a perfect meal, etc.
The creation process: The act of creating something out of apparently nothing really has affected my life. To create something: where does the inspiration come from? How is transferred from the void to the mind to the artist? This final product then inspires and moves others. Some art can help people transcend the mundane. It's amazing.
I love art in all forms. It has affected me in too many positive ways to mention. Art gives a glimpse into what is possible. It gives a glimpse into the artists life and can change viewpoints. It adds beauty to my life. I can't imagine a world without art and it's many avenues of expression. I can't imagine a world without artistic minds in it.
Hope this makes sense. It's late and I'm very sleeeeepy. Not sure who's typing this or what is being typed. haha.
and congrats on having this question featured. It is very much deserving of it. A nice way to come back after a month layoff, eh? LOL.

Last December I graduated from college with a BA degree in psychology. I had transfered from one Florida University to another to complete my studies and signed up for an Art History class. I have always admired art of all forms throughout my life but never truly pursued it. Mind you this was my senior year and just by taking this one class I found my self completely enamored by the subject matter. I knew I always loved art but never knew I had such a nack for the "history" of it. Having had traveled to Italy a few times I now had a new found appreciation for the works I had seen. I just found it truly amazing how much I absorbed and how interested I was in art and where it came from. From this day forward I have dabbled in working with clay again and hopefully someday wish to start painting~these are just some of my aspirations, but that is one way art has impacted my life!!

Looking at Art has shown me things that an Artist can do with the medium and techniques and how much style there can be in Art.
It has to be Art i like though.
Trying to be an Artist has taught me how much it is possible for your mind to grow from such things and what discoveries it is possible to make that can seem to be totally unique.
Together and separate they have taught me much more than this but i cant think how to put it.
I believe Art can also be in the things that are not associated with it.
Advertising could be considered an example.
I think you can learn as an Artist (and not) from various things like this

My Art has taught me to examine life and perception in a multitude of ways I had never dreamt of. I am not a youth, hardly. And yet a mere year ago I stumbled upon a way of seeing photography that wrenched my perception and output of graphic art into what I now call "Faery Fae." It was as though I was elf-shot. Suddenly my work in the mundane world - I teach radiation physics in a nuclear power plant - was only for making money. What I really was about was posing models and transforming them into the most surreal of colors and forms.
Now I look to retire from my regular job. My investments are paying well enough. I am selling my artwork in my shows, too. If you care to look, write me and I will show you a bit of what I do. Do promise to keep the password and art safe. The Good Folk do not take well to being betrayed.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 6 yrs ago. I attempted suicide 3 times during my life. I am 35 now. Three yrs ago I was fired from my job due to all of this and am on social security disability. It was one year ago that my 97 yr old grandma gave me all her art supplies, mostly yarns, buttons, plastic canvas and patterns and such. She taught me how to crochet. In the past year I have made 7 purses with coin purses, cell phone holders, Christmas ornaments, other holiday things and one afghan. I stay busy doing this and I feel relaxed when I do this. I can focus on counting and cutting patterns and glueing and such. I truly feel that this crafting has helped me tremendously with my anger and concentration. My counselor also agrees. I now have 3 bags and 3 shoe boxes full of things and don't know what I'm going to do with it all. The ornaments will be my presents to others this year and I was thinking of donating the purses to our church's auction booth next year to raise money for them. I am also thinking about crocheting baby booties and hats for the local hospitals. I also from time to time drawn with my 11 yr old son. He is great at it! And I took a drawing course at the technical college. It was a lot of fun! I also like to paint ceramics. And I made Christimas cards for this already. I made 21 cards in June and July. When I start something I can't stop until it's done, it seems.
So I am having fun with this all and it is helping me with my mental state as well. So well that I am looking into getting back into the work force part-time soon.

It's given me something to do with my life. Before I discovered art and that it was something I was actually good at and love doing, I had absolutely no reason to live. I was going to end up being some cubical slave and then dying just another contributing member of society. Thanks to art (painting in particular), I have somewhere to go.
Art, I guess, is just an escape from their reality into yours.

I write poetry, and I feel that it has affected my life tremendously. I am able to express my feelings in ways I couldn't speak them. I am able to share those feelings with others in ways I can't show them. I think that everyone has some sort of art in their lives, but I'm just not sure they all apply it to their life personally.
I also love music....I eat sleep & breath music. Everything from Classical. to R&B., there is always a song that fits your mood.

Various Arts,..have been very influential to me. Music is my first
love. By far. It makes me feel, happy sad, etc. It can change
your mood. Plays are interesting to watch. I make things also
with my hands, painting, woodwork, etc. I need to have a creative outlet. I used to have funky hairstyles, and my mom
would say" I know you are an artistic person"," but do you have to
take it out on your hair??". That was funny. But being creative is
like invisible electricity in your body...that flows outward...it needs
somewhere to go.....that's how I see it.

The art that has affected me is music!!! It has put me into good moods when I have been down. It has got me going when I was tired. And it has made me tear up. I love music and have since I was around 6 years old. I still have to have my daily dose of music and I am 40 now.
