Black and white "hair" coming from exhaust of my 1993 Ford Escort. Could it be coming from the back box or the catalitic converter?

It is coming from your muffler. It is the fiberglass packing used to quiet the exhaust. You can get it replaced for around 50 bucks

its the inside of you exhaust box, it means you need a new one, if you dont get one soon, the wrong amount of back pressure might build up in the exhaust systema nd over time this can damage your cars engine real bad

on a serious note it is the back box which needs replacing because the muffling wadding is coming out of it.

Its the sound deadening in the back box. You need to replace it. I know i used to work for kwik fit.

me too, its from the rear box on your exhaust pipe, you will need new exhaust (rear section).
when it first happened to me, i thought some one was messing with my car. lol

IT IS FIBERGLASS PACKING OUT OF YOUR MUFFLER THE CATALETIC CONVERTER HAS PLATINUM WHICH LOOKS NOTHING LIKE HAIR. THEY USE THE FIBERGLASS TO DEADEN THE NOISE
