People always say Rooney is so good when he isn't the best young striker, Podolski is much better than him and he scored 3 goals in the world cup and Rooney had many opportunites to score but he didn't score and right now Podolski is playing very well and Rooney isn't, but Rooney still gets more respect than Podolski.

Because he showed himself as a talented youngster in Euro 2004, and now the name is attached to him. And i agree, Podolski is way better.

Podolski is very good, and he and Rooney both play a very similar game. I think if Podolski was English he would easily get a lot more press and play for a top team.
Rooney has a lot going for him. Before the world cup he really established himself, and this as young as 16. He made the big move to Manchester United and has become one of the great strikers. When he played in the world cup, first he was coming off an injury that kept him out for 5 weeks and then was only partially healthy. Next Sven Goran Erikkson played him as a lone striker, when he is more of a 2ND striker.

Rooney is thought of by many as the best English talent for some time.But few say he is the worlds best .Rooney is also a very down to Earth working class sort of player.
No one who knows football in Europe would doubt Podolski's quality but he is not MUCH better than Rooney .Rooneys all round game is better than Podolski's.
As for whether he is as popular I don't know as I do not live in Germany ,but maybe the fact he is a Pole and not German means German football fans respect and admire him but would rathr a German carried the tag of Germany's future hope.

you're definitely right. lukas podolski is the best young striker ever. did you see when he scored the only goal against ireland, 4 goals against san marino and 2 goals against slovakia?
germany has just only played three times for the euro 2008 qualifying but already made 18 goals (not include friendlies) and 7 goals were from podolski!
maybe because rooney plays for england and england's football is the most popular one. but england can't do much in the world cup, and now, without beckham, one of the best england's player.
go germany and PODOLSKI!!

Rooney is on Englnad, a national team closely followed by the media all throughout Europe, and Manchester United, a top contender in the Premeirship and a tema that always does fairly good in the UEFA CL.

Rooney came from a humble, blue-collar background and is not a prissy showboat, prone to diving at the slightest touch. Rooney's not extremely good-looking like some mentioned, yet his talent, enthusiasm and work-ethic are unquestionable. He's the guy you'd like to have a beer with. Someone like Van Persie or Cristiano Ronaldo is who you'd have recommend and manicurist.

rooney is the best striker although he is out of form these days, but this is not the only reason for the media attention. the reason why he gets so much attention is because he is english and plays in epl, and english premier league is the most popular league around the world.
