My God, that would not only allow the poor little kid to stay in his own country and culture and - most importantly - with his real family and father (who must be heartbroken at having to give him up after losing his wife in childbirth). . .
But would feed most of their village for a year! Allow them to build a well for clean water, perhaps provide a salary for a doctor in the village? Build a school?
These people really do have more money than sense.
Its just like shopping to her isn't it? A new Gucci Handbag. A Rocking Horse from Harrods. A baby from Africa. So "this Season"!
Its "TO DIE FOR" daaaaaarhling!
Do you think they'll start issuing mail order catalgues of African babies (taken from their poverty stricken parents) for rich fashionable White women to choose from? All colours ages and sexes. Something to suit every occasion!
I thought the trade in Africans was illegal?

Its inhuman that anyone should have to give up their child through poverty. Especially when people like Madonna have so much money they don't know what to do with it. She could enable that child to stay with his family. After his mother lost two babies and then died in childbirth it must be horrendous for them to have had to give him up. I can't imagine how painful that must be.
That child belongs with his father in his own village. Madonna is just being selfish. She could sponsor that child and enable him to have a great life without taking him away from his family!!!

I am NOT "jealous of the rich" (other than I think it rather disgusting they have milions to waste while children are starving in this world).
Neither am I against Madonna in any way - used to be a big fan of hers in my teens (her "True Blue" days!)
Its her actions regarding this little boy that strike me as very wrong. I feel very sorry for the baby's father who had to give his son up through poverty. Imagine how painful that must be for him? That should not still be happening in 2006. Especially when people like Madonna have so much money they waste it.
The money spent on that silly rocking horse could provide medical care and clean water for a whole village in Africa!!!

A lot of people have given answers which suggest that they believe being selected by a celeb for adoption is like winning the lottery. As Madonna herself once so excellently put it "we are living in a material world." I guess because the love of a father and being brought up by people who knew the mother of this poor child has no monetary value some people are blinded by the over-privileged upbringing this one child will have. Never mind about the other children and adults living in such a deprived community because hey this little babies hit the jackpot. So what if the money spent on an overpriced rocking horse alone could make a big difference to many many people.
To the people who have said "I wish Madonna would adopt me" - you make me sick! You are the kind of people who aspire to be the Nicole Ritchie's of this world.

Therefore you don't really believe that **** head Madonna really cares about the well being of those kids, do you ?! She uses that has a publicity stunt.... to be in the news....in the media. And you do not really believe she forked out £5,000 (US$7,500) on a rocking horse, do you !! But many of us do believe and that is why people like Madonna continue to get wealthier and wealthier. Whenever flicking through a newspaper I see Madonna's picture I turn to the next page quickly. BORING !! What is she doing here in England. She should have stayed where she belongs, in the states. She spent as much £5,000 on a toy as Mike Jackson spent hours in an oxygene chamber everyday. All BS.

Hello why are you having a go. We all have either tapped a finger or foot or god forbid danced to one of her tunes. Are we not responsible for making her filthy rich? Next time you bye a song think about this you ar at the bottem of the chain feeding it all the way to the top. And perhaps paying for the next celebrity to act wacko. The next time you hire a film visit the cinema. Remember you a part of the culture that made these people rich.
What would you do in her shoes? Give all your money away so everyone in africa eats a square meal for a day. Then back to square one. And end up been poor. Or do you try to give some meaning to one person. Did he ask for a rocking horse? If he did wouldnt you want that person to get the best one you could bye.
The next time you get jealous of the rich remember you help them to become that way. Instead chill out miss the latest song or film.
That way they dont become filthy rich act wacko and get you all hot under the collar. You sit there and judge when your in some way paided and help her get rich. Unless of coarse you live with out a telly. Or never played a cd that you just bought. Never bought a news paper who pay huge amounts of money for interviews. Or a gossip magazine to read the latest celeb gossip. Madonna already has the money you cant do anything about that. You may be able to stop the next generation of Rich Celebs doing something which they think is a good deed.

IIf I live in the poorest part of Africa, Drugs, povety, war famine, rape, etc. I would give my child up also especially to someone who is well off in America. Answer this question. If you were in Iraq, at least 50 people killed everyday, no future, war, suicide bombers. And I walked up to you and said, I am rich, I am going back to my country where there is peace, opportunity, Jobs, you could be anything you want to be. But the catch is If you come with me you must leave your children, if your children come with me you must stay behind. which would you choose. For any logical father the math is simple. Oh by the way the trade in Africa is illegal only if you intend to make them slave. If the parent thought the white women were going to make them slave again the math is simple. Its not material, give the child a chance.. Also I believe Madonna has changed from what she once was.

you hit the nail on the head, did nobody ever teach these people to prioritise? what does the kid need a rocking horse for? if you asked him when he's a bit older hed say exactly the same. he will want to keep in toich with his dad and madonna could have used that money to make the boys family comfortable. in this day and age there shouldnt be any poverty. very sadly there is, people like her are the ones with the key to make a difference.

Madonna thinks she is doing good, though. But what she should do is help feed the people living in the village and give them food. She should help buy them clothes and help build homes. That is what she should do.
A kid is not a fashion accessory at all. Neither are little doggies. It makes me mad when I see celebs buy dogs just to put in their purses.
Ok that was off the topic, she can not just pick up a kid and use it like 5K purses or something.

I totally agree!!! If she wanted to make a difference in the life of at least 1 child, why not donate some money the village from where the child is coming? Not even 0.01 percent of her earnings will most probably feed the village for the next year!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you quite Sir Alan? besides directly to issues that actual count... No way could I spend 1700 kilos on a rocking horse that's between the dumbest issues I even have ever heard off. Sounds greater like a criminal accountability than an investment as you're able to desire to keep the stupid ingredient besides.

She is so wrong.
I think it's discusting, with her money she could have adopted the whole village and given them all a future, but let them stay in the village in Africa.
This doesn't help anyone, but createanother spoilt brat in this world.
P:S. to mitteycole - Madonna soesn't live in America, she lives in London (that's England if you didn't know)
