It's not like it's a taboo word, but I rarely ever say it. Usually when I do, it's in the context of talking about emotions... "I feel it in my gut..." But gut usually loses out to "heart". Gut isn't the most ladylike word, but it's not terrible either. Phrases like "Guts spilled out" never come out of my mouth. That's more for 13 year old boys who think "farts" are funny.
