I'm 6 months pregnant and recently went to the doctor. The midwife said I had gained too much weight. I supposively have gained 20lbs already but don't feel like it. If you don't know me then you would never even know I was pregnant. I'm really not showing that much. I don't know how much I weighed pre pregnancy but I wore a size 6 or 8. I'm having a hard time adjusting to any weight gain and by her saying that has made me paranoid and upset. I thought I was doing good. Does anyone have a similar experience or any advice?

i wouldn't b too worried. maybe her numbers were off. do u weigh urself at home? if u still look good and haven't had any problems like hemorrhoids, diabetes, high blood pressure ur probably doing fine.

dont' worry about the weight right now if ur eating more it just because the baby must b craving it. u would feel bad if u gained too little and ur baby suffered so dont' worry about doing what the baby wants

Sounds like you are well on your way to a 40 pound weight gain for the total pregnancy. The important thing to remember is the baby gains most of its weight in the last month. You will gain like 2 or 3 pounds a week sometimes towards the end, so it's good not to always gain a pound a week.
Whatever you do, don't diet while pregnant. Eat what you want. You are making a baby and you are supplying it with its nutrition right now.

Your midwife's comments sound ridiculous. You are supposed to gain 25-35 pounds during pregnancy if you were an average size before, which it sounds like you were. If you are 20 lbs now and gain about 1 pound a week for the remainder of your pregnancy (about 13 weeks) you will weigh 33 lbs when you deliver which is right on target. Make sure the eating choices you make are healthy, as your baby needs good nutrients from good foods, but please do not start worrying about your weight gain.

It sounds like you are doing just fine. Since you were thin to start with, doctor's say it is okay to gain closer to 35 lbs. Not to mention, you are tall, so you have a little extra room to spare. I'm 5'10", and am 31 weeks pregnant now, and have already gained 33 lbs. Most of the weight gained was gained during the first 6 months for me. I am trying to eat healthy and walk several times a week. I think you are on track, so don't worry. Also, congrats on quitting smoking. That is wonderful for you and your baby. Best of luck!

A size 6 or 8 pre-pregnancy should have probably gained about 20lbs at the point your are at. Remember, the "average" weight gain is about 30-35 pounds. There are many variables--height, build, and whether you are retaining water or have other pre-existing conditions.

Weight gain and pregnancy go hand-in-hand. Take it from me. I gained over 100lbs (I'm 5'10" and started at a size 10-12). It had zero to do with eating. I have one kidney and had severe pre-eclampsia. Still, despite that, I still felt like a big fat slob.

It will get better. I promise. The result in the end is magnificent.

honestly, that is one reason I do not like midwives. They are too comparative and they dont remember every pregnancy is different. For one, it is not uncommon for people to gain upwards or 30-40lbs during pregnancy. And secondly, at six months, to have gained 20 lbs is perfectly fine! My friend gained 20 by 5 months and she had no problems and the weight came off no problem. She was about your size too when she got pregnant too. Tell that lady to shut up and you could read up on the pregnancy diet and get some real help on what you should eat and it will tell you your weight gain is FINE! The book "What to eat when you're expecting" from the whole line of what to expect books is a really good one. Good Luck, and you're completely fine!

I don't think 20 lbs is to much as long as you are eating healthy you have nothing to worry about I gained 40 to 50 pounds with each pregnancy and lost it all after but the more you gain the more you have to lose that is probably why the midwife said something about your weight

You haven't gained to much weight... you're eating for two, and your pregnant your supposed to gain weight. Ideal weight for a pregnancy in normal situation is any where from 25 to 35 pounds. However if your seriously concerned you can cut back on any of the sweets and eat healthier, Parents.com offers a lot of tips for great healthy food that also benefit the baby's growth and development. Also try simple walking for prenatal yoga.. just remember to get clearance with your doctor before starting any exercise... these are all things I did when i was pregers and it helped to stay fit and healthy during my pregnancy.

They say 35lbs is a good amount of weight to gain for the entire duration of the pregnancy. The midwife isn't a doctor, your doctor should be the one expressing his/her fears/concerns on your weight. What did the m/w say this could mean for the pregnancy or was she just concerned you couldn't get back into your jeans after? I would check with a doctor before getting too upset.

I was about 135 before I got pregnant. I am now 7 months and I am 172 lbs. I am not happy about the weight gain. I feel like I am not eating alot and I don't feel like I am gaining that much weight, but according to the scales I am. With my other two children I gained alot of weight also. But with those two I knew and felt like I was gaining alot of weight. With this pregnancy my husband is the one who eats like a pig and I am the one who gains it all. As long as my baby is healthy then I am happy. If you want to slow the weight gain then I would suggest walking.
