I was at a dealership this weekend and I was given a car to test drive. The salesman actually told me that the car had already been sold to another person. Is this legal?

I would say it would matter if the paperwork was singed yet. And if the customer found out what kind of deal he/she made of it.

NO--on the law...He sold you a car as is. There was a sign on the widow that says no warrentee or no guarentee. Your suspose to be savy enough to take the care to your mechanic and have him check it out from bumper to bumper...Before putting cash down and promising to pay more later... The only thing you can check is the 72 hour law to return the vehicle... Cancel the deal.. I do not underestand how you could pay so much for a 17 year old car... In the mean time put oil in it--so ya don't ruin the engine...$3

Not ethical at all but probably legal- depends on where the dealer and buyer were in the purchase and registration process.
We purchase vehicles from dealers- 100s per month- and the deal is not a done deal until the money is in the bank and we have insurance on the unit.
I would certainly wonder why he/she even TOLD you that it was sold! 5% ethical for telling you and 95% unethical for letting you drive it.
Just my opinion.

I would say yes and no.
If you were compairing that model with one that you want to buy, the yes.
However if it was without the persons who baught the car and the salesman did not have his premission then no.

Hmmm. IDk, but it might be, like until it's driven off the lot, if they have another one just like it....
