You dont need to lub plastic. If there are metal parts then yes lubricate them but lubricating plastic will do no good. It will in the short term ie 5 minutes until the oil comes off as oil cannot bond to the plastic like it can metal. It is most probably dirt in the moving parts, clean them and it could well cure it.

Go to Autozone and find some plastic conditonser and protectant. The cheaper the better. It may help but odds are the furniture is done for. Plastic and the sun aren't a great combo. When you aren't using lawn furniture you should cover it or put it in the garage to protect it.

The answer is silicone spray. Aerosol can -- doesn't stain and is an excellent lubricant and surface protector. Work on most anything that sticks or squicks -- wood, hinges.

If you don't have any WD-40 on hand, maybe you have some Pam(type) cooking spray?
Try that!
I use it on squeaky hinges and it works great !!
It also lubricates a slow moving hinge.
Good luck.
