If a woman has nice abs and she becomes pregnant, what happens to those abs? I've always wondered that. Do they soften? Does the growth of pregnancy hurt women with strong abs by stretching them out?

HI there. I always had rock solid abs. Then I had two huge babies only a year apar(my belly got so big it rested on whatever I was sitting on-hanging there right between my legs!!!. My abs slowly stretched as would be expected. Your body releases hormones that help tissues stretch and expand. It was painful when I got really big at the end. I did isometric work often (but not full situps or anything) and worked on my yoga ball. I had a flat stomache again and could do V-sits (pilates) in about 5 weeks. Now you would never know I was pregnant before.

It takes work, but it's possible!

Pregnancy will definitely affect a woman's abs. but, luckily if you have strong abs BEFORE you become pregnant, you often are not a big throughout the pregnancy and it is so much easier to get those abs back in shape afterwards!

obviously during pregnancy your body will "balloon" some, and your abs will vanish. but the good part is that after your baby your body can still retain its original shape. breast feeding also helps to tighten any stretched out muscles that occurred during the pregnancy.

I have heard of them stretching out, and even separating in the middle (even after the baby is born). This happened to a girl I know, and she wants surgery to "correct" it.

They go away never to been seen again.

Well your upper ones will come back in time, but the lower ones will be gone forever.....(unless you get lucky or get surgery).
