While a faster connection is a good step in the right direction, it is important to know HOW to search too. There are all sorts of different ways to put in your search string, and each search engine uses different methods. I advice you to go to each search engine help section and look up advice on how to properly use each service. There are all sorts of ways to put in words, how to string them together, how to use wild cards, and other ways of searching. It is also important to set your browser setting to not go to the first website located but to list the results on a page, this way you have many different sites to choose from and this speeds up searches. If you have your browser set to only go to the most likely site then you are limited to that one site and have to go back and try again, often to only get that one site yet again. This is frustrating and problematic at best. Go into your browser settings. If IE go to Internet Tools, then to the Advanced Tab and scroll down the list to the Search with Adress Bar, and choose a setting there which best suits your needs. Now, when you search via the search engines available Online, you always get a list of possible matches. When you learn how to refine your search these results will become more and more comprehensive and less overwhelming. Sometimes the shear volumn of listed sites is tremendous and can be disheartening. Learning each search engines style of searching is crucial in refining your searches with each one.

Now, when you are searching you can use the Search Assistant or the Classic Search also called Search Companion.. Click on the Search button on your toolbar and see what comes up. If it is the Search Assistant you will see a window open on the left of your browser and it will have a list of options for searching. Follow the questions and you will be led to results which opens to the right in the main part of the browser window. You can change to the Classic Search by clicking on Custom and then selecting the option you want, either just one search engine or the Search assistant or the Search Companion. Try them all out and see what works best for you. Now, if you select to search with only one engine you can select it out of the available ones in the list in the dialog box where you chose the above selection. I do not reccoment only using one search engine as this is limiting and will limit your results to only those put out by that single search engine. You can choose to use one or some or all of the engines, can choose which one to use at any given time by clicking Custom and then selecting it out of the options, so if you know what you are looking for and which one would get the best results select it and use it then you can always go back in and select a different one. You can also set this up to use one then if your results were not satisfactory to go to the next and so on down the list. You can also choose which order you want the browser to search with which search engine first, second, third and so on. Just select your first choice and use the up arrow to place it at top, make your second choice and so on. You can also use the down arrow to move selections down the list.

Go to each search engines home page to access its help pages. There you can access information on how it uses its search and what you should do while using each particular one. At first it is alarming in how much information there is on searching, but as you just systematically work with individual search engines you will get the hang of it. Now, many ways to search is uniform across all search engines. It is the particulars which can throw a person. It is those you need to know for each individual search engine in order to make best use of them and get your results more streamlines and relitive. Just keep practiving and soon you will be searching and surfing like a pro!

Good luck and have a really nice day!

Get a DSL or faster connection.
Get a newer computer.
And like the other response says know what you're browsing for before you start browsing.
By the way, the more you use the 'net, the more you'll become familiar.
