There are four time zones in the United States starting from the east and going westward. They are eastern, central, mountain and pacific. As you move west the time becomes one hour earlier by increments. The time on the west coast is always three hours earlier than in say New York City. I am sorry I don't know all the time zones across the pond.

U.K. is usually 5 hours ahead of New York & 7 hours of L.A., according to GMT. Central America is between 6-7 hours behind us. Example:- UK 12 noon, so New York 7am, Oklahoma 6am, LA 5am. Have used a world map for my answers.

Hint: 360 degrees of difference in longitude, corresponds to 24 hours of time difference. Calculate, now, the number of minutes for 1 degree of longitude difference. Every other calculation, will fall in place, once you have worked this out and, further, refer to longitudes of places / zones concerned. Please remember, that Greenwich longitude is 0 degrees and all other longitudes are calculated East or West of Greenwich, based upon location, until you reach the International Date Line, which is 180 degrees West or East of Greenwich, depending on the direction from which you approach it (with respect to Greenwich). Also note, that the date changes only at two different places; the International Date Line (static) and Midnight Line (dynamic).
"Immediate West" of International Date Line (which is farthest East from Greenwich, where the sun rises "first" to the world (each new day) is one date ahead of "Immediate East" of International Date Line (which is farthest West from Greenwich, where the sun sets "last" to the world (each dying day). When midnight line coincides with International Date Line, then, at that instant, the whole world is on the "same date," (i.e., for just that near-zero instant).
In less than "the wink of an eye", as Midnight Line proceeds Westwards, due to rotation of the Earth, a new slice of next date opens up, "immediately West" of International Date Line (up to the progressing Midnight Line) and the change ("incremented date slice,"extending from International Date Line to the progressing Midnight Line) continues to grow around the world, in 24 hours, along with it (the progressing Midnight Line), gradually updating the date, as the Midnight Line proceeds around. The "slice" (of incremented date) grows, bigger and bigger, until the next midnight, at the International Date Line, similar phenomenon, of incrementing the date, in a sort of jump from the Farmost West to the Farmost East (with reference to Greenwich; "Immediate East" to "Immediate West" with reference to the International Date Line!), is repeated.
